Rainfall is quite low and falls mainly in the winter months. In the summer rainfall is very rare. It is composed of 5,412 square kilometres with approximately 410,000 permanent inhabitants (density of 76 inhabitants per square kilometre).

Rainfall peaks at 72mms in March with the dry season setting in in June with little rainfall falling untill September.

In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.

The average a href=http://www.climatetemp.info/portugal/lagos.htmlLagos temperature/a in March and April ranges between 9 and 19 degrees celcius and in May and June it increases to between 13 and 25 degrees. Lagos’ economy, like many coastal towns in Portugal, has always been closely linked to the sea, and fishing has been an important activity since very ancient times.
