The Different PEX Fittings Methods Used In PEX Water Delivery Arrangements
PEX is a water plumbing system manufactured from high density polyethylene pipes. specific PEX fittings are utilised to join PEX tubing. PEX tubing is a supple material that is simpler and less pricey to install, is resistant to corrosion and calls for fewer fittings than fixed pipe plumbing systems.
In cold temps PEX pipes retain their flexibility and do not become brittle and break. Unlike metal pipes, PEX tubes will not rust and will not develop scale. PEX tubing is energy efficient as well because they do not conduct heat.
PEX tubing is stored on spools. Spools weigh less than metal or rigid plastic pipe making them less pricy to ship and easier to store. When used in an Installation, PEX tubing can be unrolled directly from the reel and does not call for coupling fittings. This saves the time and cost of running pipe. PEX tubing can be turned 90 degrees getting rid of the need for elbow fittings. PEX tube does not need to be soldered so there are no unhealthy fumes and dangers posed by using a torch.
Connecting the tubes is done by placing a fitting into or over the tube and then pinching a ring positioned over the tube or fitting. There are a few different connection methods. Some use copper crimp rings and others use crimp rings constructed of plastic. One arrangement uses a stainless steel clamp. Most fittings are brass although some are constructed of other metals or plastic. Because PEX tubing is resilient and can be flexed to a 90 degree angle elbow joints are not needed.
Pipes are cut utilising a specific PEX pipe cutter and come in different sizes to accommodate 1/2″ or 3/4″ tubes. A main crimping tool is utilized to pinch the rings over the pipe or fitting. There is a de-crimping tool that is utilised to remove crimped rings. There are some specialized tools employed for the stainless steel clamps and proprietary joining methods.
Fittings can be constructed of brass, bronze, copper or engineered plastic but the most common material in PEX plumbing is brass. The fittings have ridges designed to form a tight fit. When the ring is crimped over the tube or fitting a high-pressure seal is formed.
Water plumbing schemes that take advantage of PEX tubing and PEX fittings have definite benefits. The materials are less pricy than metal and plastic pipes. Fewer fittings are required. The Installing process is easier and shorter. Your system will never corrode or burst so it will last longer with fewer potential problems.
